'Mob Deep', From Benjamin Holmes, Recounts the True Story of How the Author Faked His Death to Escape Mob Retribution and a Corrupt Government

Written by Benjamin Holmes, "Mob Deep" tells the author's story of how refusing a mob job in Youngstown, Ohio kicked off a chain of events that led to his home being burned down, authorities blaming him for the act, the faking of his death and the near-death experience he narrowly survived.

Benjamin Robert Holmes Jr. is 66-years-old and living in Youngstown, Ohio. He’s been racing cars at a young age, with his mechanic father encouraging him to keep up with the hobby. He furthered that interest with a bachelor’s degree in engineering mechanics and management, which led him to building mufflers for local street races, where this story kicks off.

Holmes’ skills for building mufflers were sought by some local mobsters in order to produce silencers for their guns. After refusing to do the job, his home was firebombed and he was hospitalized from the incident. Some local law enforcement, in the pocket of the mobsters, charged him with setting the fire intentionally in order to collect insurance. This further devolved to the point where Holmes was forced to fake his death and disappear.

While on the run for the next two decades, he learned of an affair his wife was having. After the confrontation, she shot him several times, and he was only able to survive with the help of his brother. After being discovered for who he was at the hospital, his help was sought to take down the corruption in Youngstown. His story has been told on Discovery’s “I Faked My Own Death” and this book is his own telling of these events and how he survived.

Readers looking to learn how Holmes was able to get through it all can purchase “Mob Deep” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iBooks Store, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.
